Central Florida's Original Firearms Academy — Est. 2008

The Class G License Program

Florida's Class G Statewide Firearm License (commonly called the G license) is the credential required to work as an armed security officer in Florida. It is issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Division of Licensing and requires a 28-hour firearms training course plus annual range re-qualification every 12 months.

USS Academy runs the G license training program paired directly with U.S.S. Agency — a Florida-licensed Class B security agency with 280+ active officers in the field. That integration is unique in Orlando: most local G license providers teach the class and send the student off to find a job. USS Academy teaches the class inside the ecosystem that is actively hiring G-licensed officers, so graduates step directly into armed-security employment consideration.

What the G License Class Covers

The Class G curriculum is set by FDACS under Florida Statute 493 and Florida Administrative Code 5N-1. The 28-hour block must cover: legal aspects of firearms, mechanical operation, safe handling, physical aspects of firearms, marksmanship fundamentals, and a documented live-fire qualification course.

USS Academy delivers all 28 hours under the FDACS schedule with classroom work at our partner facility and live-fire qualification at our partner range. The curriculum specifically covers Florida Statute 493 (Private Investigative, Private Security, and Repossession Services), Florida Statute 790 (weapons and firearms), Florida Statute 776 (justifiable use of force), and the FDACS-approved Class G qualification course of fire.

The live-fire qualification course is shot on the FDACS-approved target array and scored against the FDACS minimum competency standard. Every student receives their qualification target and score documentation on completion.

Annual re-qualification (4-hour refresh plus documented live-fire) is also offered on a rolling schedule. FDACS requires every Class G licensee to re-qualify annually; USS Academy documents the re-qualification and submits the records format required by FDACS.

Designed for Florida Armed Security Candidates

This class is for candidates who intend to work as armed security officers in Florida, current Class G holders who need annual re-qualification, and current Class D (unarmed) security officers upgrading to armed status. FDACS requires a valid Class D license as a prerequisite for the Class G; if you do not yet hold the Class D, USS Academy can guide you through the full path.

Law enforcement officers do not need a Class G to carry on duty. Private investigators covered under Class C do not need a Class G. If you are unsure whether the Class G is the right credential for your situation, contact us before booking.

Class G Graduates and U.S.S. Agency

U.S.S. Agency is Florida's premier armed and unarmed security company, staffing 280+ officers across the state under a Class B Security Agency License. Class G graduates from USS Academy are considered for placement consideration with U.S.S. Agency immediately on license issuance. This is the only Orlando-area G license program with a direct in-house employment pipeline.

Independent placement is also supported. We have active referral relationships with other licensed Florida Class B agencies and maintain an employer-facing directory of our Class G graduates for hiring managers.

Instructors Who Teach and Deploy

Other Class G providers exist in Orlando. Very few can claim their instructors are actively deploying armed officers in the field every week. USS Academy and U.S.S. Agency share leadership and share operational standards. That means when you sit in a USS Academy Class G classroom, the instructor in front of you deployed someone on a post yesterday and will deploy someone else tomorrow.

That operational context elevates every piece of the curriculum. Use-of-force doctrine is taught with reference to actual incident reports. Radio discipline is taught because it is a daily reality. Client-facing professionalism is emphasized because the graduate may well be the next officer booked to a Renuity Home shift, a HOA community patrol, an executive detail, or a hotel.

USS Academy has been running firearms instruction since 2008. Our instructors carry 27+ years of combined instructor experience including Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor credentials, USMC instructor credentials, and Florida Class K License. No other Orlando G license program can match that depth.
